Shakers (May 2004)

Aberdeen Arts Centre

An outrageous and hilarious parody of the 'big night out'. Wickedly funny, poignant, moving and thoroughly entertaining, this is a must!

During the 1980s, every town had its Shakers, the oh-so trendy cocktail bar where everyone wanted to be seen, from the local supermarket check-out girls to the chinless wonders, from the yuppies to the local lads tittering at the thought of a 'Long Slow Comfortable Screw'!

Shakers, by John Godber and Jane Thornton, gives us a humorous and realistic glimpse of this world. The four long-suffering waitresses offer a fascinating view of their true-to-life existence behind the plastic palms and 'Pina Coladas'. Portraying every character from the waitresses themselves to big shot television producers, lads out on the town and party bimbos, our four actresses set about entertaining us in an amazing blend of humour, reality and poignancy.

...Shakers is another adventurous step for Phoenix - and as cocktails go, it’s a classic...
