Guys & Dolls (June 2012)

Aberdeen Arts Centre

Phoenix Youth Theatre has rolled the dice and come up trumps with what is generally acknowledged to be the best musical ever written - Frank Loesser's Guys & Dolls.

Guys & Dolls is a rip-roaring musical comedy packed with well-known songs such as the rousing 'Luck Be a Lady Tonight' and 'Guys & Dolls', the delightful 'If I Were a Bell', and, of course, the show-stopper 'Sit Down You're Rocking the Boat'.

Add to this a superb collection of New York characters like Nathan Detroit and his long-time fiancée Adelaide, the suave Sky Masterson, Nicely-Nicely Johnson and Benny Southstreet. Mix in the lovely Sergeant Sarah Brown and her Salvation Army colleagues who run the Save-a-Soul Mission on Broadway and you have a sure-fire recipe for an evening of pure delight!

...some great casting, imaginative stagework and choreography and, of course, top class singing, gives this Phoenix Youth Theatre production real sparkle...
