A girls night in at John Lewis

Phoenix Theatre actresses at John Lewis

A number of Phoenix Theatre's corporate performers must have thought it was their lucky day when they were asked to spend an evening relaxing in their pyjamas in the shop window of Aberdeen's John Lewis!

Not only did they get a calm time chatting on the sofa and reading magazines, they were also treated to makeovers, pizza and had a Nintendo Wii to play with. Sometimes life can be very tough for our dancers!

Cash for Kids Santa Appeal

Phoenix Youth Theatre pupils singing Christmas songs

Phoenix Youth Theatre were delighted to join up with Northsound Radio and other partners for this year's Cash for Kids Santa Appeal.

Some of our youngest pupils were on hand to entertain guests and the public as a Christmas choir, while a few of our older stars kept the day in order as Santa's helpers!

Bling Fling Christmas Thing

Phoenix Theatre performers adding a pantomime touch to Christmas

Phoenix Theatre and Phoenix Youth Theatre were proud to be involved in the 'Bling Fling Christmas Thing', a ladies night of entertainment, stalls and fashion shows at the Hilton Treetops Hotel.

Money from the event will be shared between Prof Heys' breast cancer research at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, Archway and Children's Cancer Support at Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital.

Jennie's charity hour on the plinth

Phoenix Theatre's own Jennie Milne was one of 2,400 people chosen to take part in Antony Gormley's 'One & Other' Project, where a different person stands on the Forth Plinth in Trafalgar Square every hour, 24 hours a day, for 100 days. She was one of 207 participants from Scotland, who were chosen from almost 35,000 applicants.

Participants could do anything with their hour and Jennie chose to spend her time dressed as a 50s housewife, throwing handmade felt cupcakes into the crowd. She raised money for Grampian Women's Aid and managed to raise £750 for the charity, which helped to refurbish a family room at a refuge.

Remembering Colin Reid

Phoenix Theatre and Granite City Brass celebrated the life of North-East drummer Colin Reid, with an evening of entertainment at St Mary's Church, Aberdeen.

Colin played for both groups before his recent sudden death and he will be greatly missed. Proceeds from the concert went to Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland.

Phoenix Youth to join Ellen Kent operas

Phoenix Youth Theatre is delighted to confirm that some of our young performers will be joining forces with Ellen Kent Opera and Ballet International for their upcoming tours of Aida and Turnadot.

Ellen Kent has been working with young performers across the UK for 15 years, in an attempt to boost their stage careers, and has partnered with Phoenix Theatre since 2007.

Jonnie follows his family's footsteps

Aberdeen's annual Student Show is keeping it in the family this year, as Phoenix Theatre's Jonnie Milne prepares to witness the fruits of his labours as Administrator of the charity event. His eldest sister, Jennie, was part of the cast 10 years ago, while their mum Liz Milne debuted as Assistant Director 20 years ago.

Jonnie's not got the only family connection this year, as brother and sister Laura Jarret and Craig Pike make up the Musical team, while Choreographer Shona King is the sister of Script Editor Stuart.

Wrapped your head around all of that? The 88th Student Show runs at His Majesty's Theatre from April 21-25, with all the proceeds going to North-East charities.
