Finals beckon for star Michael

Former Phoenix Youth Theatre singer and actor Michael Lewis

We are sure that everyone associated with Phoenix will join us in crossing their fingers and sending the best of luck to one of our most beloved former stars this weekend.

Michael Lewis has successfully got into the finals of the Young Scottish Musical Theatre Performer of the Year, which will take place on Saturday 20 May at Glasgow's SECC!

The judging panel for the heats commended him for rising above the "exceptionally strong and extremely fierce" competition and that comes as no surprise to those of us who saw Michael's talent from the day he walked into Phoenix Youth Theatre.

We all continue to be incredibly proud of Michael's ongoing achievements and look forward to hearing how things go this weekend!

An ah-mer-zing time at the ball

Phoenix Theatre performers as mermaids at JDRF Ball

Members of Phoenix Theatre and Phoenix Youth Theatre were on hand - or on tail! - to help out at this year's JDRF Junior Diabetes Charity Ball last night.

The 'Under the Sea' event took place at Ardoe House Hotel and the guests loved being welcomed by the mighty King Triton and his favourite mermaids!

Our prince climbs a beanstalk

Former Phoenix Youth Theatre actor Michael Lewis

Phoenix Theatre and Phoenix Youth Theatre are delighted that one of our former young stars has won the role of his dreams as Jack in 'Into the Woods'.

Michael Lewis landed leading roles in Phoenix Youth's 'Billy', 'The Pajama Game' and 'How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying', before going on to play Rapunzel's Prince in Phoenix Theatre's 'Into the Woods' in 2014.

We were all incredibly proud when he secured a place at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and he has made a great success of himself, such as playing the lead part of Ugly in Honk and now securing this part in his school's Sondheim project. We look forward to hearing how his second journey into the woods goes next month!

We bid goodbye to a canine star

Phoenix Youth Theatre dog star Benny Milne

It is with a deep and profound sadness that we report that our beloved Bennie, who starred as Sandy in Phoenix Youth Theatre's Annie, has passed away.

Bennie was an absolute highlight for cast and audience alike in the 2010 show and he loved every second he spent in the spotlight.

We hope that you will join us in remembering him as a sociable, fun and loving dog. He will continue to live on through all of us.

After all, good dogs never die. They just fall asleep in your heart. And they're happy, so they wag their tails and that is why your heart hurts.

Phoenix Theatre takes on the 'Mannequin Challenge'

Phoenix Theatre and Phoenix Youth Theatre would like to thank everyone who attended 'One Day More' and helped us raise money for the incredible Grampian Women's Aid.

While celebrating the show's success, the cast decided to put their own spin on the newest internet craze - the Mannequin Challenge. Or as we call it - freezing!

It's not all song and dance at Phoenix Theatre. Enjoy a trip backstage at ACT Aberdeen and see what happens when we stay really still!

The perfect day for a Phoenix wedding

The wedding of Phoenix Theatre actors Ian and Katie Baxter

We would like to thank everyone for their love and best wishes as Phoenix Theatre's own Katie and Ian staked their claim for the wedding of the century!

The happy couple have each been central parts of Phoenix Theatre for the majority of their lives and their future marriage has seemed to have been written in the stars. After spending their childhood playing together, they would go on to star as romantic leads in Phoenix Youth Theatre's 'My Fair Lady' in 2009 and then Phoenix Theatre's 'A Little Night Music', 'Hello Dolly' and 'Legally Blonde' - in 2013, 2014 and 2016 respectively.

It's been a long time coming and it was certainly worth it. The wedding was a simply stunning day from start to finish, with beautiful weather, beautiful people and no one could have wished for anything more.

We are sure that each and every member of Phoenix Theatre and Phoenix Youth Theatre will wish Katie and Ian a long and wonderful life together as Mr and Mrs Baxter.

Colette heads for Chelsea!

Phoenix Theatre choreographer Colette Murray

We are proud to announce that our wonderfully talented Choreographer and Dance Teacher, Colette Murray BA Hons, CBTS (RAD), FDI (ISTD), has been appointed to the management position of Programme Co-ordinator with The English National Ballet School, based in Chelsea, London.

Everyone at Phoenix Theatre and Phoenix Youth Theatre will be sad to see her go after six years of stunning choreography but we are all very proud of what she has achieved and know that she will go from strength to strength in her new position.  Aberdeen's loss is London's gain!

Good luck, Colette!
