Cabaret (May 1991)

Aberdeen Arts Centre

Willkommen! Bienvenue! Welcome!

The year is 1930. The place is Berlin. This is the cosmopolitan hub of a bankrupt nation. It is a city of jobless and inflated prices, of wild propaganda and sudden, nervy violence, of Communist cells and Nazi agents jockeying for power. Bars are thronged in frenzied escape from grey sullen lives. At the seedy Kit Kat Klub, a drum roll and the Master of Ceremonies, a grotesque reflection of the spirit of the moment, advances to greet his guests. The Cabaret is on!

...the amateur players have met and mastered the challenges of the musical made famous by Liza Minnelli, and she herself would applaud the group’s professionalism...
