The King and I (June 2001)

His Majesty's Theatre

Shall we dance? Yes, you certainly will!

Aberdeen's Phoenix Theatre, in conjunction with the children of Phoenix Youth, presents the stunning, spectacular and sensational musical The King and I. For half a century The King and I has captivated millions with its delightful story of Anna Leonowens who is brought to the Court of Siam as tutor to the King's many children. The show is a dazzling musical celebration and something rather extraordinary  it is a story of love and joy set to one of the most glorious, beautiful and unforgettable songs ever written.

With music by Richard Rogers and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, whose collaboration produced arguably the greatest partnership in American musical theatre history, the show was one the earliest to change the genre of the stage musical for ever.

Phoenix Theatre celebrates the show's 50th anniversary with one of its own - the company's 10th anniversary of presenting top quality musical theatre and drama in the city.

...from start to finish the word ‘amateur’ just never enters your head...
