A Little Night Music (May 1997)

Aberdeen Arts Centre

Phoenix Theatre is proud to present the Scottish premiere of Stephen Sondheim's A Little Night Music. This glorious comedy, tackling the intriguing subject of love and lovers, is Mr Sondheim's most elegant score and features the classic song 'Send In The Clowns'.

The story, set in turn of the century Sweden, introduces us to a charming collection of characters who find themselves thrown together for a weekend in a country house.

At the centre of the proceedings is renowned actress Miss Desiree Armfeldt, who is busily trying to rid herself of one lover, Count Carl Magnus, in order to marry another, Frederick Egerman - a well-respected lawyer. Both men, however, are already married: Carl Magnus to his ever-faithful Charlotte, and Frederick to Anne, his 18-year-old child-bride. To further complicate matters, Frederick's son, Henrik, is deeply, but secretly, in love with his young step-mother!

...Sondheim fans will be impressed by this beautiful, tasteful production and should grab the opportunity to see this Scottish premiere while they can...
