Annie (June 2010)

Aberdeen Arts Centre

For our 10th anniversary, Phoenix Youth Theatre presents the heart-warming family musical that started Phoenix Theatre itself, back in 1991.

Annie, a gritty, red-headed orphan, decides to run away from the New York orphanage, run by the intolerable Miss Hannigan, who loves her alcohol-filled hip flask rather more than the orphans in her care. Luckily, Annie is present when Grace Farrell, private secretary to the billionaire Oliver Warbucks, arrives at the Orphanage to select an orphan to spend Christmas with Mr Warbucks.

Meanwhile, Miss Hannigan, her small-time criminal brother, Rooster, and his tarty girlfriend, Lily, cook up a plan to masquerade as Annie’s parents and claim a $50,000 reward for them to come forward.

Will Annie find her parents?  Will there be a happy ending?

...the production is a masterclass on how to stage this musical - the principals, chorus and band are all outstanding - the choreography was breathtaking...
